2012 in Review... and Being Intentional

How is 2013 treating you guys so far? I hope everyone had a good Christmas and New Year's! Consider this my obligatory end of the year round up/what I hope to accomplish in the new year post.

2012 in Review

I'd dabbled in blogging for years, but 2012 was the year that I really started blogging and attempting to share my blog. I feel like I found my calling as an "ag blogger" and discovered much to my amazement that there were other people out there a lot like me that wanted to share their ag life!

While most of my posts are probably only read by a couple people (hi mom!), I did write a couple that generated quite a bit of buzz. My post on raising food animals generated the most page views and comments, and I still stand by every word that I wrote. My crate debate post also got a lot of hits and comments, and although I know it's a touchy subject I still stand by what I wrote in that one as well.

I added a Facebook page and a twitter account for the blog this year, even though I still have fears about losing my ability to be anonymous. I had generally had about 20 (it's 24 now!) followers this year, but comically I actually lost one after I wrote this post about working calves. Guess they didn't appreciate my pictures.

Our little family went through quite a bit this year as well. 2012 was the first full year that I've had my big-girl job, we got Tucker, and Dustin quit his town job to start farming full time with his dad. We also went on our first real vacation together/belated honeymoon to Texas - which I still need to blog about!

Being Intentional

While I think that making New Year's resolutions are great for some people, I'm personally more comfortable with the idea of picking one word to focus on for that year. I've decided that for 2013 my word should be intentional. As in being more intentional. I have this habit of just kind of floating through life a lot of the time. Waiting for one day to end just so that I can start another one.

If I've learned anything this year, it's that you shouldn't take one single day for granted. I need to start being more intentional in how I live my life, and doing things that actually count towards something instead of just "being". There's a time and a place for relaxing, going with the flow, and not taking on too much - but when I get to the end of 2013 I want to look back and feel like I actually accomplished something rather than just going through the motions of my life.

I'm planning on revamping and republishing my 101 in 1001 list, but I also have a broader, more general list of things that I want to be more intentional with in my life this year.

  • Live life as it's happening - When I'm at home, be at home, and when I'm at work, be at work... mentally. Unplugging at home and focusing on Dustin and Tucker and doing "homey" things makes me a better person when I'm at work so I can focus there too.
  • Blog better - This means on my own personal blog posting at least once a week, hopefully at least twice a week. Quality posts. This is going to take time, so I need to schedule that for myself and make it happen. Part two - help/work more on the Faces of Ag blog. Poor Elizabeth has been pulling 98% of the weight lately and I feel terrible about it, I need to set aside time and dedicate myself to doing it!
  • Try more - Be more crafty, cook more recipes, attempt to dress better, to do something with my hair, get a healthier body - basically stop being content with what I am and what I'm doing and don't stop trying new things.
Anyone else setting specific (or general) goals for the upcoming year? We have a lot of changes ahead of us this year with new jobs, responsibilities, changes... so I think this is something that I'm going to need to focus on to keep myself headed in the right direction.
